Background

Computer room The computer room was created in 1989, within the framework of the European program of education of visually-impaired individuals in the area of information technology. For first time in Greece blind individuals were given the opportunity to come in contact with personal computers, via special software [screen readers] and material [voice composer]. Since then more than 400 individuals have been trained on PCs and the equipment has been upgraded many times.

Equipment

Today there are 10 workstations, connected to a local server, with the following description:

  • Windows XP, Office XP
  • Hal 5.20, [screen reader]
  • Supernova [magnified screen for the partially-sighted]
  • Sound card [in place of speech synthesizer]
  • Scanner
  • Braille Printer
  • Internet access through ADSL line 512 Kbps

ECDL Certificate

In the Computer room our students can take their examination to acquire the ECDL Certificate.
