Departments - Chorus and Music Dept

Objective

G. Intza plays piano (Sumbert) in the event for the 60 years of Lighthouse operation The aim of the department is to support the Chorus of the Lighthouse, to teach Byzantine Music, popular and traditional songs and ensure their participation in artistic events.
Also blind and partially-sighted individuals are taught accordion, piano, guitar and traditional instruments.

European Chorus

Lighthouse's European Chorus The European chorus of the Lighthouse for the Blindof Greece was created in November 2004 and is made up of 32 members full-sighted and blind. Their repertory includes Greek songs of well-known composers such as Hatzidakis, Theodorakis, Xarhakos, Spanos, Loizos, Moutsis, Mauroudis and others, as well as songs of classic repertory, from the collection of the unforgettable music teacher, in the House of the Blind, Stavros Petsali. The chorus is directed by maestro Georgos Sakogiannis who is also responsible for the harmonisation of songs.

Byzantine Chorus

The Byzantine chorus is made up of 23 members of full-sighted and blind individuals. The Chorus leader is the music teacher and chanter, Ioannis Alexandrou.
