18 May – International Museum Day

The Tactual Museum of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece will remain open from 9:00 am to 20:00 pm on Thursday, 18 May 2006, in accordance with International Museum Day. Entrance is free. The Tactual Museum is accessible to individuals with mobility problems.

60 year anniversary celebration of the Lighthouse for the Blind

With a concert made up of European and Byzantine choruses, and the performance of Schubert melodies by the pianist G. Intza, the Lighthouse for the Blind celebrated 60 years of operation. During the event, after a short report by chairman of board Mr. Konstantinos Kolokas about the history of the Lighthouse for the Blind, honorary plaques were presented to

  • The Armed Forces and the Municipalities of Kallithea, Athens, Piraeus and in the union of Municipalities and communities of Attica’s Prefecture for their support of the Brooms - Brushes workshop of the Lighthouse for the Blind.
  • The Representative of the State Mrs Eleftheria Bernidaki and to the former Representative Mr. Panayiotis Kouroublis, for their contribution to the support of the handicapped
  • The Pan-Hellenic Union of Retinopathy, for their contribution in the prevention of blindness.
  • The Friends of the Acropolis Union, for their support in the Tactual Museum.
  • The Georgios and Mary Bergotis Foundation, for their donation towards the creation of the Boarding House.
  • The American Friends for the Blind Organization, for their continuous economic support of the actions of the Lighthouse.
  • The Greek Red Cross
  • The Blind Orthodox Association and to Mr Georgios Praso for their contribution
  • The following companies Public Power Corporation, Hellenic Arms Industry, Siemens, Frigoglass, Intracom, ELSA, EVIOP - TEMPO, BSH, Basinas AVEE, because with their support of the Metal Works Unit of the Lighthouse and their product orders, they ensure the work of visually-impaired individuals.

Sculpture Exhibition
