Honorary visit of the President of the Hellenic Republic at the premises of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece

On Wednesday, September 5th, 2018, the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece had the great honor to welcome at its premises in Kallithea, His Excellency, the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos.




Apart from the President and the Board of Directors of the association, there were also present: Mrs Τheano Fotiou, Alternate Minister of Labor and Social Solidarity, Mr Christos Kapataes, Vice Governor of the South Sector, Mr Dimitris Karnavos, Mayor of Kallithea, Mr John Mpalafas, Μember of the Parliament-Syriza Party and Mr Kostas Zahariadis,  Manager of the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA.


During the visit, the President was offered a tour at the Departments of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, with relevant detailed information regarding the wide range of the services and activities developed for more than seven decades and the great impact on the visually impaired peoples’ community in all aspects of their lives.


The President showed a special interest in the Braille Printing Department and Historical Lending Library, the Talking Book Studios and Lending Library, the Gymnastics Department, the Computer Courses Department and of course the Sheltered Workshops, where he had the chance to meet visually impaired working people and be informed about their great offer as unique professional outlets for the visually impaired ones.


The visit was completed with a tour at the Tactual Museum, with special reference at its significant cultural and social offer to the blind community and the society in general.


The President of the Hellenic Republic congratulated the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece on its innovative efforts and unique presence and claimed that he will be by its side, in terms of the social necessity of securing its major work.
